Robert West is professor of Biostatistics at the University of Leeds with research interests in the analysis of observational data. He has considerable experience with electronic health records and the challenges concerned with robust interpretation. In terms of epidemiology, the use of latent class methods can reveal interesting typologies that can be incorporated in mixture models. Frailty is a topical subject within elderly care and investigation of frailty progression using cohort studies has been a recent focus. There has also been opportunity to employ powerful longitudinal models to analyze both trials and studies to provide evidence for mental health interventions in children and adults and in different countries. Professor has a number of PhD students involved with modern statistical and machine learning methods working in medicine, health, and epidemiology. As an aside, he previously very much enjoyed being on an organization committee for an international conference based in Hanover 2001, and the subsequent journal special issue.
